I love chocolate but chocolate doesn’t love me
Do you have acid reflux? Do you try everything and still feel like your spinning your wheels? Do you eat a million tums or have a prescription for acid reflux meds? Do you avoid foods because you know you’ll pay for it later?
I know the feeling. I used to get so annoyed that I would have to miss out on eating certain foods or practically eat a whole bottle of tums and still feel like my throat was on fire. I used to drink a gallon of water in hopes to ease the fiery hell in my throat. I was frustrated and I was tired of taking medication that was useless. I also used to work in an Endoscopy recovery unit and I got to see firsthand the effects of reflux over the years and I was like nope, no, uh huh, need to get my shit together.
So why would someone get acid reflux or what does that even mean?
Acid reflux or heartburn has a couple of causes. One could be due to a weak esophageal sphincter which can be caused by overeating. This causes the gastric juices to enter through the stretched sphincter and into your throat.
Another more frequent reason is due to low stomach acid-which I know you might be thinking, “ummm…no Desiree it’s because my stomach acid is too high and that’s why my throat burns daily.” I know, I know but I assure you if your stomach acid is “high” its probably related to a timing issue and stomach acid being released when there isn’t any food in that tum tum.
If you are having reflux, I would make sure you have your doctor check and check that you don’t have an ulcer or a hiatal hernia.
Well that’s great info but how do I fix this?? Great question. I’ll give you a few tips you can start implementing today to get you started on the right track.
Just make sure you see an MD if you suspect, ulcers, infection, or hernia. Always talk to your MD before stopping any medications.
Increasing your intake of plants that are green. Yep, the chlorophyll in green veggies will help heal the inflamed lining. Examples: spinach, collard greens, broccoli, green cabbage, green beans, peas, matcha green tea, and spirulina are just a few.
You can also try drinking beet juice daily, it has powerful antioxidants but also has betaine which will increase your stomach acid.
Beets, are very beneficial for you!
Just be aware they will make you look like you have a GI bleed…your poop will turn red!!
Apple cider vinegar may also be used to increase your stomach acid but I would heal the lining of your stomach first.
Avoid those foods that irritate your tum tum, you know the coffee, chocolate, fried foods, alcohol- I know, I know. You’ll feel so much better though in the long run and then you’ll be able to enjoy those foods soon enough.
I hope this helps you along your journey of healing!
